It’s not uncommon to see working adults lead fast-paced lifestyles these days. Such a life may be advantageous to our careers, but calamitous to our overall health considering the stress that comes with it. 

If we aren’t heedful of our actions and priorities, we risk harming ourselves in the name of our careers. And this shouldn’t be the case since our health is of utmost importance. To prevent ourselves from burning out, we should consider adopting different self-care activities to unwind every so often. 

Here are a few examples that are both universal and budget-friendly.

Social Media Detox

A cause of stress for so many people nowadays is social media. It has its benefits like worldwide connection, yes, but it has its drawbacks, too. For one, it can get quite toxic since people are often empowered by the protection that mobile phones and computer screens provide. Words hurt, even from strangers. Hence, the need to detach yourself from your online presence occasionally.

Limiting your internet use outside of work hours can be beneficial to your mental health. It also gives you more time to focus on other facets of your life, like real-life relationships with other people.

Stay-at-Home Spa Day

Pampering yourself doesn’t have to burn a hole in your pockets. It doesn’t have to be time-consuming either. You can have spa days at home, and even on a daily basis, if you incorporate it into routines.

One example is through hair care. Hair is an important asset, and you should care for it regularly. A way to maintain or improve its current condition is by applying hair masks. Also, invest in high-quality hair products like curl-defining conditioners, organic shampoos, and oils and serums. When purchasing hair care products, take note of the ones that are meant for the type of hair you have. 

Skincare is another component of home-based spa days. Your skin is an indicator of the labour that you go through every day. It’s also one of the first things that people notice, which is why you must take good care of it. It’s good to establish a routine that suits your skin types since constant maintenance is needed to keep it healthy. 

A few non-negotiables are oil and foam cleansers, exfoliators, and moisturisers. Aside from these regular products, you can incorporate the occasional face masks, too. There’s a wide array of options available, ranging from Aztec clay to vegetable or fruit-infused masks. 

Sleep In

Sleep is another factor that can affect both your physical and mental health. However, it’s the one that’s often neglected by the busiest of people. Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate activities, though.

Sometimes, turning off the alarm clock during weekends and snuggling into your covers are enough to improve your conditions. Not only does this give you the rest that you need, but but it’s also a great way of releasing all the tension in your body.

Considering all of these, self-care isn’t always the occasional ‘bang!’ in our schedules. The best form of self-care that we can give ourselves is activities that can become habitual over time.
